In the meantime, it looks as though the province is about to reconvene to order the strikers back to work, citing a "health threat" due to the pileups of garbage. The NDP legislators are thinking of forcing a delay to this order. I hope they do; it would likely doom their chances of holding on to their three Toronto-area seats next election. For that matter, if the strike were to persist through July 22, it would coincide with the visit of Pope John Paul II, and I would dearly love to hear the union reps explain why Torontonians shouldn't be angry with the strikers for messing up the Pope's visit.
