"Five axiomatic propositions of Canadian Nationalism vis-a-vis the Americans:

1. Boy, we hate Americans.

2. We really do.

3. Really.

4. I'm not kidding. We really hate them.

5. So how come they never pay us any attention?"

--Will Ferguson, Why I Hate Canadians, Vancouver: Douglas & McIntyre, 1997, p.105.

Kill the parents. One motivation for the Palestinian suicide bombers is the financial (and status-based) benefit accorded to their parents after they kill as many Israeli civilians as they can. One way to negate this incentive would be for the Israelis to adopt a policy of killing the parents of suicide bombers. [Pause for indignant complaints from Eurocrats here.] This suggestion comes to me from an acquaintance, a Protestant farmer in the Midwest, who has traditionally been quite sympathetic to the plight of the Palestinians. Yet the events of the last several months have dissipated this sympathy, and today he is as hawkish as anyone I know. It is startling to see this change in the "American Street."
