"Five axiomatic propositions of Canadian Nationalism vis-a-vis the Americans:

1. Boy, we hate Americans.

2. We really do.

3. Really.

4. I'm not kidding. We really hate them.

5. So how come they never pay us any attention?"

--Will Ferguson, Why I Hate Canadians, Vancouver: Douglas & McIntyre, 1997, p.105.

Auggh! Teaching again! Wednesdays are rough. I won't be posting until this evening, but come back then for the most recent round of Canadian political follies (three kerfuffles today: 1) the government allegedly funnels money to politically-connected consultants for bogus services; 2) the ruling party squelches hearings into the alleged pressure by one minister to provide patronage [the minister was made ambassador to Denmark after the allegations came out]; and the Heritage Minister's attempts to divert a museum exhibit into her home district backfires. All in a day's work in Canada.)

Also, I hope to post on Stephen Jay Gould's theory of Lamarckian evolution, and how it explains the current problems of the Left. Cheers!
