Hindu mobs rampaged through a city in western India on Thursday, killing more than 60 people as they burned Muslims alive in their homes and set fire to Muslim- owned restaurants, shops, cars and apartments.
The religious violence, the most serious India has experienced in years, was retaliation for a Muslim mob's attack Wednesday on a trainload of Hindu fundamentalists in which 58 people were burned to death in a single car. Most were women and children. [emphasis added]
Here's the ArabNews version, "Hindu mobs on murder spree":
Hindu mobs in the western Indian state of Gujarat yesterday went on a rampage, murdering Muslims and burning down their houses and businesses. At least 58 people were killed in widespread violence throughout the state. The killings followed the deaths a day earlier of 58 Hindus when their train was set on fire by enraged vendors at Godhra railway station who were refused payment. [emphasis added]
Keep this in mind when the next CNN poll finds that Arab respondents in Saudi Arabia have an unfavorable view of India and/or Hindus.
[UPDATE: Joanne Jacobs comments on the headlines in the San Jose Mercury News, which are somewhere between the NYT/CNN/etc. and ArabNews.]
