Selective outrage update. The Globe and Mail news section today relates a story from the Guardian in Britain regarding the gruesome treatment of several British and Canadian expats living in Saudi Arabia 18 months ago. It seems that the Saudi secret police brutally tortured them to extract false confessions for a series of anti-Western bombings within the Kingdom. Heather "I'm against torture" Mallick, who last week bravely expressed her outrage about Guantanamo Bay (see Jan 26, below), will publish her next column in two days. Any bets on whether she condemns the Saudis? I'm offering 20-1 odds that she doesn't, because, you know, who are we to judge another culture?
